Dearest friends and family,
Today marks one year of being pancreas-free. A year ago today, I woke up at 4AM and was at
the hospital with Jack and my parents at 5 AM.
I was also surrounded by many prayer warriors lifting me up in prayer
around the clock and around the world. Dr.
Adams and his team were the extension of God’s hands performing a miracle.
I woke up this morning and said to Jack. “No epidural, no IVs, no hospital gown, no
staples…regardless how today goes, it is going to be a great day!” What a
difference a year makes!
I get choked up remembering how terrified I was of the
surgery and the recovery. My two
greatest concerns were pain management and insulin injections. The hospital staff at MUSC kept me
comfortable and in 9 days I will have gone 8 months without needing any
insulin. I am humbled by the unique and
special ways my family and I have felt comforted during this long season beginning
over 2 years ago.
I was informed prior to surgery that it would take 1 year to
recover from a total pancreatectomy.
There were definitely some days that I wasn’t sure if I would make it to
the one year anniversary which felt so far off.
Well thanks to the encouragement and prayers of many, it is
party time. A dear friend that I have
known since I was 4 years old has traveled South and we just returned from a
celebration dinner. Prior to surgery, food
was a trigger for horrific pancreatitis pain.
Now without an inflamed pancreas, I can eat and live without fear. Glory and praise be to God.
I am excited about a new year and a new season. Looking forward with anticipation with how
God will continue to work, heal and restore.
If I can pray for you or a loved one, please do not hesitate to let me
know. I am the byproduct of prayer and
always honored to pray for others.
Praying you have a blessed 2014.
With love and joy,
Becky
